a program which performs a certain action as a su bstitute for man. Sometimes its function is to pretend to human b ehavior or perform automated tasks. The name comes from the word bot robot. Such programs work, for example, an IRC (Internet Rela y Chat). Formed to act in the absence of the channel operators for discussion, in order to watch the channel and protect the canal before the transfer. The most popular IRC bot is a eggdrop. There are also bots for instant messaging and for the Jabber network.
